7 weeks old! And my OB check up.

Sorry I’ve been neglecting my blog, as well as all of yours! I’m trying to get back into the swing of things in the blogging world. I miss all of you, and I miss writing.

I had my 6 week post-partum check up this past week. Everything looks good, and I’m cleared for all activity. I still feel tender now and then from tearing/stitches, but that’s normal. I’ve lost 23 lbs!! I can’t believe it! I only have 6 lbs to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight! I’d like to lose some more and tone up a bit. I just want to be healthy and get back into shape.

I’m back on Metformin for PCOS – not for TTC purposes – for keeping my hormones and cycles regulated. I haven’t had AF yet, but it could come anytime. Prior to getting pregnant, Metformin helped me lose weight. I’m not too concerned with how I look, in fact, I like how I look. I’ve adjusted to the changes my body has gone through. I still have noticeable stretch marks, but honestly, they’re not that bad. They’re my tiger stripes, and I’m proud of what I went through to get them. πŸ™‚

Sooo, hubby and I DTD this past week! I was pretty nervous. It did hurt in the area where I had torn. I also bled afterwards. We went slow and easy, but I guess I need a little more time to heal. We’ll try again soon. Even though I was scared and it hurt, it felt nice to be intimate with my husband again. He said he finds me even more attractive now that I’m the mother of his son. I love him!

Graham turned 7 weeks old yesterday (Saturday)!! I didn’t get a chance to do his 6 week update. I believe he’s been going through a growth spurt. He’s eating a lot more frequently and fussing. Of course, we’re still dealing with his stomach issues. Things have been better for a couple weeks though! Still not great, but better. It’s amazing how much he grows and changes everyday. I swear he’s just recently grown an inch! Some of his newborn clothes are suddenly becoming short in the arms and legs! I don’t think we’re quite ready for 0-3 month clothing. His 2 month check up is next week already!!! I’d be willing to bet he’s 8 1/2 – 9 lbs and maybe 20 inches by now! Little peanut is getting bigger!

I’ve seen Graham smile before, but only with his eyes closed or in his sleep. I always chalked it up to gas. It was still cute to see! BUT yesterday, I got my first REAL smiles!! He smiled AT ME! I was singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and talking to him in a silly voice. I got a TON of smiles. I’ll include photos. He even smiled at me again a few more times yesterday! It was the best, most rewarding feeling! I am so happy, and I love interacting with him!! I love him so much!!

Happy baby!! πŸ˜€

5 weeks old

My little man turned 5 weeks old yesterday!

Maybe I’ll try a format something like this…

Weight/Length: I’m guessing he’s between 7 1/2 – 8 lbs by now, based on his last check up and growth pattern. I don’t think he’s gone over 8 yet. He was almost 19 inches long at 4 weeks. Little peanut! I can’t wait to see how much he’s grown at his 2 month check up! Only a few more weeks!

What he likes: his Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, toys – rings are his favorite, his activity seat with vibration, bright colors, the noise from the washer/dryer/dishwasher, being held and rocked, his pacifier, being sung to, shush sounds, having his hair brushed and head massaged, his bottle/eating, the carseat and taking rides, looking around at everything, and music. He doesn’t have any aversions to people other than Mommy and Daddy, but he likes Mommy best. πŸ™‚

What he doesn’t like: lying flat (crib and cradle), taking a bath, having his nose suctioned, loud noises, bright lights or camera flash, and having gas or hiccups. I don’t think he likes being swaddled anymore. Sleep sacks are awesome.

What he’s up to: He’s awake a lot more throughout the day, not just during feedings. His main activities are eating and pooping. πŸ™‚ We encourage play time more and more, but we try not to overstimulate him. It can make him fussy. He wants to interact and try to grab toys. His eye contact his great. Lots of smiles – a couple times it looked like they were for real and not gas! I think his stomach issues have finally improved a little bit over the past week!! Yay!!

How Mom and Dad are doing: Andy and I went on our first date night last night! It was so hard leaving Graham! I wanted to cry. I knew it would be good for Andy and I to spend some quality time together. We had a nice time! We both remarked it felt like something was missing. It felt weird, yet relaxing. Andy’s Dad watched Graham for a few hours and did a great job, of course. He said Graham was good and hardly fussed! He was really happy to have the chance to spend time with Graham. Even though it went well, I don’t want to do it very often. I would rather spend family time together. It would be nice once and awhile though!

4 weeks old!

Time is flying, as usual! Graham turned 4 weeks old this past Saturday – August 31st!! I took him to his 4 week check up last Wednesday (it was a few days early). He weighed in at 7 lbs, 3.7 oz and measured at almost 19 inches! So, he has grown almost 2 lbs and nearly 1 inch since birth! I am so proud of my little man! He’s only in the 3rd percentile, but his growth curve looks perfect. The pediatrician was very pleased with his growth increase. Graham is a good eater, despite his gas and other stomach issues. He’s now eating about 4 oz at a time!

I stopped bleeding 1 week ago! Yippee!! My body is healing. Since I’m formula feeding (due to medical reasons), I might expect to get AF soon. It’s different for everyone though. I’ve been struggling a bit, mostly from being exhausted and adjusting to such a big change. It’s a change on many levels – life in general, physically, emotionally, hormonally. I tend to be pretty hard on myself when things aren’t running smoothly, or I can’t soothe my baby. It makes me feel inadequate or guilty at times. I just want to be a good mom, you know. I’m learning to stop blaming myself and give myself more credit. I’m feeling better, stronger, and more confident everyday. It just takes time, and it will continue to get easier.

All of that aside, I am so much in love with my little sweetheart! He is amazing. Everything is so new to him. It’s like I’m seeing the world through his eyes, and he makes me appreciate the little things. He makes it all worthwhile. πŸ™‚

Andy and I are going to have a date night next weekend!! Dinner and movie! Andy’s Dad is going to watch Graham for a few hours. It will be tough to be away from him, but it’s important to make time for Andy and I as a couple. We are both really looking forward to it.

Now for some 4 week photos!

Same outfit in both photos – My, how he has grown!!
