Week 22 Update, including appt and ultrasound!

How far along: 22 weeks, 1 day!

How big is baby: A papaya! Average size: 10.5 to 11.8 inches and 12.7 to 20.8 oz. Actual size: Not sure on inches, but he is now 1 lb, 1 oz!! He’s definitely been on the high end of the growth chart every time! I’m so thankful for my healthy baby, especially because he is at risk for IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Retardation).

week22I had a 22 week check-up with my MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine) specialist yesterday! I am healthy, and my little man is perfect! I always feel such relief and excitement after my appointments (especially after ultrasounds)! First, they did a transvaginal ultrasound to check my cervix length, and it’s nice and long (about 4cm)! Then, they took a look at my placenta to see if it was still covering my cervix. It has moved away from my cervix and is almost completely normal now (in only 4 weeks time)!! What a relief!

Next, we did a regular ultrasound and got a good look at my boy. He’s getting so big, and he’s adorable!! He’s lying sideways across my belly. His head is towards the right side of my belly, and his body extends towards my left. He’s always snuggling into my placenta at every ultrasound. He’s reallllyyyy low. I want to tell him, “There more room in there, buddy – move around and stretch out a bit!” πŸ™‚ My uterus is now reaching up above my belly button by about an inch – wow, that’s a big uterus!

It just amazes me that we continue to defy the odds. We got pregnant when they said we would not. We achieved a healthy, successful pregnancy when they said it was impossible. Both baby and I have remained healthy so far, despite my new problems/diagnoses and possible complications and risk factors. This pregnancy is such a miracle and a blessing. Both myself and my little boy have kept fighting, and we’ve proved them all wrong so far. I know we can make it through whatever comes next!

Movement: The last time I felt him was Friday & Saturday. On Friday, it felt like he was jumping!! I was thinking about the yummy feast we were going to eat for our Anniversary, and I swear he got excited! LOL! πŸ˜€ Saturday, I felt some rolling or moving of some sort. I love the sensations so much, and I love my little man. Still hoping to feel him more often, but so thankful to feel him occasionally at least!!

Weight Gain: 12 lbs total. Definitely did some growing recently! I can’t wait to be allowed to do some walking and activity – not just for weight, but for overall well-being.

Upcoming Appts/Other Updates: My back/bum pain is still improving! The rest has helped, but I wonder what will happen when I go back to regular activity. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. The only other new issue is that my hips are starting to bother me a little bit. I will mention it to my Orthopedic doc on Friday. I would love to see a Chiropractor or do Physical Therapy if he allows it! I’m going to ask about massage, too! Other than that, feeling wonderful!!

–This Friday the 19th: Orthopedic check-up to see if I can return to work.

–4/30/13: 24 weeks – Viability!!

–5/2/13: Next OB check-up.

–5/16/13: Next MFM check-up and growth scan.

  1. That is a great looking belly, mama! πŸ™‚ Yikes, growth restriction is scary stuff, I am so glad he’s measuring so well for his dates! Go Spot Go! Curious – what does cervical length have to do with anything? I imagine too short would be bad?

    • Thanks! πŸ™‚ It’s good to keep an eye on cervical length, because shortening or changes can indicate pre-term labor, which is another thing I’m at risk for. Mine has been perfect so far though, thankfully!

  2. Awe, Look how cute Graham is, oh and you too!!! Glad your appointment went well. That’s great that your placenta has moved out of the way, I’m sooo freaking excited for you and Andy, summer is around the corner and soon you will be holding your little man…..I can’t wait, I am getting all giddy thinking about it.
