Week 20 Update – Halfway!

I added some new categories. It’s kind of a lot, but I will probably tweak it as I go along.

How far along: 20 weeks, 1 day!! OMG!

How big is baby: A banana (seems like a funny one, well funnier than usual)! According to pregnant.thebump.com, he is now 6.5 inches and 10.6 oz. I think he may be a little bigger than that. He was already measuring 6.5 inches a few weeks ago, and he’s been ahead in weight by about an ounce or so at the past few ultrasounds. πŸ™‚ I’m so proud of my boy!

week20What baby is doing:

–He’s got working taste buds.

–Now, he’s gulping down several ounces of amniotic fluid each day — that’s significantly more than before.

–Building up meconium in his digestive tract.

–Genitals are fully formed.

Milestones: I am halfway through! I cannot believe it! Sometimes it’s still like a dream! It’s been 115 days since I found out I was pregnant, and I have 139 days to go!

Movement: On Monday, I felt real baby kicks!!!!! I kept thinking I was feeling “something” for the past few weeks, but it was so random. But Monday, I KNEW it was him! I had lots of “bubbles” and taps on my left side, where he’s been hanging out! Then, there was a tickly feeling like I was being touched! I guess I just needed a stronger nudge to know what I was feeling. πŸ™‚ I’m so thrilled! I cried!! Yesterday, I felt him move and roll around on my bladder (and kick it)! LOL! I think he was rolling – that’s the only thing I can think of for such a strange (but awesome) feeling! I sat there in pure amazement for awhile. I can’t believe I am experiencing this!!

Weight Gain: 8 lbs total now. Grow baby, grow.

Have you started to show yet? Yes, I am finally! My belly has “popped” and grown quite a bit in the past 2 weeks! You can even see my belly when I’m wearing a looser top. People who know I’m pregnant have noticed a difference, but no strangers have said anything yet. Now I’m at home on modified bed-rest, so I don’t have a chance to see people. Wait til they see me the next time I go out!

Maternity Clothes: Definitely! I probably could wear some “normal” clothes, but they don’t fit right anymore. It’s not really due to weight gain – it’s that my shape has changed so much. My regular tops are getting too short. It feels like my clothes shrunk haha – it’s weird! Maternity clothes form so nicely to my new body shape. And they are soooo comfy!

Symptoms: Some of my earlier symptoms have made a comeback suddenly – like constipation and sore boobies. Other than that, peeing a lot. I’m still feeling fatigued, but part of that is due to Hypothyroidism. It seems to be getting a little better now that I’ve been on Synthroid for almost a month. Overall, I feel good! I’m very lucky!

Food Cravings: My sweet tooth has made a comeback! I didn’t want any sweets in early pregnancy. Now, my big craving is cupcakes! I also love the new “Green Apple” flavor in Skittles. I wish I could have a whole bag of just the red and green Skittles! I won’t over-indulge on the sweets though. Not good for blood sugar or weight.

Emotions: I’ve been very emotional! Lots of crying the past couple weeks. You all know I’ve had a rough couple of weeks, so that’s part of it. The pregnancy hormones seem to be in high gear, too though. I feel so bad – I yelled at Andy the other day. In my defense, he was being as ass. BUT I am not one to get that upset and raise my voice, especially over something silly. I felt pretty bitchy doing that. I cried and apologized to him. I’m normally very easy going and in a pretty good mood, so hopefully that’s not a new trend!!

Sleep: I’d say I get a good amount of sleep mostly every night at this point. I also take naps when I can. Rest is important. It’s been a little more difficult to get comfy considering my back/bum pain and expanding belly. I usually manage to do pretty well with my boppy body pillow and other pillows. Sometimes heartburn and leg cramps wake me up, but it’s not too much of a bother.

Best moment this week: Andy started his new job this week!! More money and more hours! Yay! There’s always lots of great moments. Anytime I hear my baby’s heart beat on the doppler, everyday I wake up and feel blessed to be pregnant, anytime I think of my baby boy, feeling KICKS and movement, and hitting 20 weeks! I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning every time something exciting happens, hehe.

Worst moment of the week: My Grandma’s passing. Although, I feel more at peace with it all now. She is in a better place, with Grandpa.

What I am looking forward to: Even though it came as a big shock/disappointment at first, I am now looking forward to having this break from work and resting! I’m still in pain, but thankfully rest is helping. There’s a lot to look forward to, baby-wise, too!! I need to plan lots of stuff!

Upcoming Appts/Other Updates:

–4/4/13 – Routine OB check up.

–4/12/13 – Our 11 year Anniversary!!!!

–4/16/13 – MFM specialist appt with ultrasound to re-check my Partial Placenta Previa and baby’s growth.

–4/19/13 – Orthopedic appt to see if I can return to work.

–At my OB appt this Thursday 4/4/13, we’ll be re-checking my Thyroid levels, so fingers crossed for good news!

–Also, I had my immune panel re-drawn last week, and my darn Cytokines are still high! We had been lowering my Prednisone (steroid) dosage very slowly, but now I have to go back on the high dose. We will work on tapering it off again, and re-check my immune panel in a couple of weeks. I think my back/bum inflammation could have caused the higher levels, but it’s a tricky one to figure out. I hope this immune stuff gets to a more reasonable level soon. Dr. Kwak-Kim actually called me herself this time, which was nice. She said there’s not really anything I can do to help things along, but she said (in a gentle, joking way) not to have a heart-attack about it. LOL. I just love her. πŸ™‚

Belly pic: Whoa baby! πŸ˜‰ I’m excited!

Week 16, I was wearing the same shirt as Week 20 – Wow! πŸ˜€

  1. Happy Early Anniversary to you and the hubs! And also congrats on his starting his new job. I hope that you are able to enjoy some much needed bed rest. I do hope you have some good books to read and maybe Netflix. =)

  2. Awesome update Lisa!!! I so enjoy reading your pregnancy updates, I am also very sorry for the loss of your Grandma and you being able to spend that time together just before she left to be with Grandpa will forever be special for you.

Wow, have you really popped!!! Looking marvelous Girl!!! Now that you are on bed rest I hope you are getting the much needed rest, maybe time to pick up some knitting/crocheting to pass the time, maybe make a blanket for Graham. If I lived near you I would come and knit with you and sip back the tea….lol, just to keep you company. I hope you don’t get too bored and find something great to do in the meantime. Maybe I missed it but do you have a theme for Graham’s nursery yet? We did Pooh (not classic but bright and bold…hehehe) in our nursery and for our shower last June we went with a bumble bee theme, it was awesome. Hope you have lots of fun planning his room now because when he gets older he will want his say too…LOL

Happy Anniversary!!! Our anniversary is in April as well (the 19th). Isn’t April Grand? Anyway take care and can’t wait for next weeks update, wow 20 weeks already….it is so sureal!!!

You have really popped…cute pic! Congrats to hubby on the new job.

  5. Wow 20 weeks! Glad everything is well with the little πŸ™‚ hope everything continues to go smooth for the rest of your pregnancy. I am so very sorry about your Grandmother..my heart goes out to you and your family..that is so very hard to go through, especially while being pregnant. Stay strong as you always have been!

  6. Feeling baby kick and move is very awesome! Wait till he gets a little bit bigger and moves your whole tummy when he moves! There were a few times while I was pregnant, that baby would kick a book off my stomach. There was also a time when I thought baby was resting, so I used my stomach as a cup holder and he kicked the cup off…what a mess but it had us laughing!! Your little Graham sure did grow big in the past week…look at you..so amazing to see!

  7. Oh yeah, you’re def showing! Nice!!! πŸ™‚ Halfway is AWESOME!!! Woohoo! And may I recommend maternity jeggings from Motherhood? They have been my go-to pants for the last few months when I was bigger and the belly band wasn’t cutting it anymore. πŸ™‚

  8. Hi there!! I’ve been MIA lately as baby has been keeping me extremely busy (you will soon find out!) but wanted to let you know I am still here folliwng along and thinking of you and your little guy! You have really popped now–it is completely obvious you have got a baby in there! Feeling movement is amazing–it completely makes up for all the other pregnancy ailments you have to endure. I loved green apple flavors when I was pregnant too–I had a granny smith practically every day!
