Update on spot & I – Week 14

How far along: 14 weeks, 1 day!

Baby size: A lemon. 🙂 Some sites say an orange. “At week 14, your baby is 3.4 inches and 1.5 ounces, she/he’s almost doubled in weight since last week and keeps on growing.”

  • He/she’s probably sucking his/her thumb and wiggling his/her toes in there!
  • The kidneys are making urine, and his/her liver and spleen are doing their jobs, too.
  • And he/she’s growing lanugo, a thin, peach-fuzz-like hair, all over his/her body — it will help him/her keep warm!

Symptoms: Frequent urination, still some fatigue, stretching and other sensations in my hips. Nothing too noticeable or a bother though. Yesterday was strange – I almost threw up as I was getting out of my car to go to work. Then I got really nauseated last night and almost got sick again! It felt like motion sickness. I haven’t really had that, so it came as a suprise (especially at 14 weeks). I know some people getting morning sickness at all different stages though. I’ve been lucky so far, so we’ll see how it goes. 😉

Food Cravings: Veggies!! Still Lucky Charms, too. There’s a lot more variety of things I like now. Like I mentioned in my other post, this cravings section is just for fun. I don’t live off of my cravings. I eat healthier now than ever, probably!

Emotions: I’ve been tearful, happy, and relieved ever since last week – all those great appointments and wonderful news. I’m thinking ahead to the future, but also trying to savor every moment right now. I don’t want this to go too fast! I don’t feel as worried as I did before. Like this week, I don’t have an ultrasound, but I am totally fine with that. I have really come a long way.

Weight: Holding steady at 3 lbs total (scale at work). My OB’s office scale says 2 lbs total. I thought I had gained another pound a couple weeks ago (so 4 lbs total), but I lost it again. Must have been water weight. I am right on track weight-wise.

Something I’ve done to prepare for baby’s arrival: I did start a registry, but I have only added a few items. I’m not sure what we need. I also want to wait until we find out spot’s gender to put a few more specific items on there. I need to research some items, as well. I can’t believe I started a registry!

What I am most excited about: Seeing spot next Thursday the 28th! Finding out the gender (hopefully) at that appointment! And my 18 week anatomy scan is now set up for 3/21/13 with the MFM specialist! It still blows my mind that all this is happening. I’m so thankful and excited! I’m definitely feeling more shock again since hitting the 2nd trimester. There are even more emotions now that this is becoming even more real. But it still doesn’t quite seem real, LOL! It’s hard to explain how it feels to realize I’m not dreaming.

  1. Someone is going to have the guts to ask any day now….. :). It will be exciting next week when the blog says Avery (Lilah?) and I :). Love this. Finally it is ME living vicariously through YOU! So fun.

  2. I was so excited to start a registry and was all excited because i had done research but then when i got to babies r us all my research and lists went right out the window! I also had a slight meltdown which i blame on hormones.

  3. So exciting! I can’t believe you are 14 weeks pregnant already. Where has the time gone?! Doing the registry is so much fun. As a new mom I have a few suggestions for you. #1 was the swaddle pod by summer’s infant. It looks like a baby straight jacket, but it works wonders to help baby sleep in the first few weeks. #2 was the puj tub. It is pricey, but I am still using it for Wade at nearly 4 months old. It makes giving him a bath soooo much easier since you can put it in a bathroom sink. This is especially helpful if you are healing from a c-section or an episotomy. #3 Snuzzler by sumer’s infant. It perfectly holds baby’s head in place in the car seat … especially when they are first born and you leave the hospital.

If you plan on breastfeeding I can give you a couple suggestions as well. You must have the lily padz. They are the only breast pad that keeps you from leaking AND are amazingly comfortable.

If you need any other suggestions, don’t hesitate to ask 🙂

  4. I had a really hard time with the registry also… how do you know which items are “best” for baby really!?! Happy to make suggestions if you need help. I think I left in tears the first time and did better when I went back with a Mom friend. Just a heads up. Congrats!

  5. Well, look at you!! All glowing and happy! Glad to see that you have relaxed some and enjoying the pregnancy 🙂 it’s all happening and I’m so glad I can be a part of it, this child has lots of aunties 🙂

  6. Wow Lisa, Awesome news as are all your updates. I had trouble with my registry as well, I had actually ran into my boss while I was doing mine and I had asked her what the one thing she couldn’t live with out for her babies. She told me the hydrasense nasal aspirator starter kit, look it up, I thought it was gross, but with Shaelyn’s cold she has now, it has been a life saver, sucking boogies out isn’t all that bad (thank goodness there is a filter…LOL) it works 10x better than those squeeze bulbs. Gift cards are awesome too, we got tons of them and are still working through them…LOL. We have been buying bath toys now that she is sitting up and wanting to play with things, I was tired of the face cloth tug of war…. 🙂

  7. Do not take this the wrong way because I mean it as nothing but a compliment. It’s SO awesome that your bump is already so big and noticeable! It felt like it took forever for me to actually feel like I looked pregnant. And here you are, 14w and look at that awesome baby bump!! 😀
It’s good to start your registry now b/c you are going to change it A LOT as you read up on everything you might need/want.
And I agree… gift cards are frickin AWESOME!!! If someone doesn’t know what to get you, gift cards!

  8. I see the belly growing! You look great! Starting a registry is really exciting and also stressful–it really is hard to know what to put on there (in my case, I just put everything and plan on doing a lot of returns later). I have been craving Lucky Charms too btw, so funny!

    • It does seem like quite a daunting task! 🙂 I will probably do the same – just put more on than I actually need and then decide later what to return. That’s a good idea. Ooh yay for Lucky Charms! 🙂 Yummmm!

  9. Hi! Just found your blog. I love the pics you posted. You definitely look pregnant AND happy! Good for you 🙂 I’ll definitely be following your pregnancy. I’m still “cautiously pregnant”…..just found out!
